For WMA, 2008 began with the permitting stage of Camp Creek and Solid Rock Medical Complex in Atlanta.  Camp Creek is a 90,000 sf Medical Office Building located at I-285 and Camp Creek Parkway and will stand 9 stories, housing 10 Physician offices, a 5 room surgical suite located on two floors and an imaging center.  Solid Rock Medical complex is the first phase of a mutli-level health care complex to service this growing area.

Under Construction this year we have renovations to Spalding Medical Center (Griffin, GA), South Fulton Regional Medical Center (Atlanta, GA), Coastal Care Behavioral Health (Savannah, GA), Carolina Center for Behavioral Health (Greer, SC), Perry Hospital CEP (Perry, GA), Houston Medical Center (Warner Robins, GA), and  Northeast High School (Macon, GA).

Robins Air Force Base Projects

WMA Architects has designed two projects for Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA.  The first was a renovation of approximately 43,350 SF of Building 301 to create an additional fitness center for Base Staff.  This project included an indoor track, dedicated exercise and aerobics areas, basketball/volleyball court, free weight area, cardio workout area, men’s and women’s locker rooms, as well as support areas such as laundry, check in, juice bar, and offices.

The second project was a 5,600 SF addition to Hanger 83.  This addition included office space and support space for the hangar.

Danforth, Springdale, and Northeast

WMA was awarded three projects from the most recent ELOST for the Bibb County Public Schools.  For Danforth Elementary School, WMA designed an addition with eight classrooms, a music room, restrooms, gym, and support areas.  The 13,800 SF addition was greatly needed and has moved students from trailers that were an eye sore at the front of the school, to real classrooms.  This offers better security and a more cohesive student body.

Springdale Elementary required both a renovation and an addition.  The classroom portions of the main building were completely gutted and new classrooms with a new corridor system were built in their place.  This new system allows for less sound transmission between classrooms as well as between classrooms and the corridors.  The renovation also included the restrooms, main office, some support spaces, a new retrofit metal roof, and technological, mechanical and electrical upgrades to the main building.  The addition included eight classrooms, each with their own toilet.  This project also included moving students from trailers back into the building, again increasing the overall safety of the campus.

The project at Northeast High School is still under construction, and includes the renovation of the three main buildings that make up the campus.  All classrooms on the campus are being renovated to include technological improvements necessary for the 21st century classroom initiative created by the Bibb County Public Schools.  A new entry feature, unified color scheme and new finishes help to tie the three buildings from different eras together.  Sitework including separate bus drop off and parent bus drop off tie the campus together separating the student traffic from vehicular traffic.

The renovation to the Lasseter Building incudes new finishes throughout, renovated toilets throughout, and the creation of a dedicated area for special behavioral students including classrooms and offices for staff.  The renovation also includes creating an accessible means of access for the stage in the cafeteria, and a school spirit theme in the practice gym.  The renovation of the Vocational Building includes upgrades of finishes, renovation of the main office and creation of a lobby area, upgrades to computer labs, and the relocation and enlargement of art, band and choral suites, creating an integrated fine arts department.  The Mark Smith Building houses the main gymnasium for the school, and this area receives a much needed enlargement in the renovation.  A new plaza creates a distinct entrance and a larger seating area is achieved through a new, taller, metal roof.  New bleachers, concessions, trophy area, locker rooms, and theme create an appropriate backdrop for the school’s award winning basketball teams.  The classrooms on the upper level receive the same upgrades as the rest of the campus.

Tenet ADA Projects

WMA is currently working on two ADA compliance projects for North Fulton Regional Hospital and Spalding Regional Medical Center.  Both projects include renovation of selected toilets and patient rooms to ensure ADA accessibility, as well as non-compliant features in all other departments.

SFMC Projects

WMA recently completed the renovation of the Outpatient Nurse Station and elevator lobby for the Women’s Center at South Fulton Regional Medical Center.  The nurse station renovation included new finishes, rearrangement of workspaces for better efficiency, and the ability to secure the nurse station.  The enlarged waiting room provides a more comfortable area for visitors with upgraded finishes to match the nurse station.  The elevator lobby is now expanded to enlarge the waiting room, with new finishes that create the hotel atmosphere the client is aiming to achieve.  A renovation to the physician’s lounge is planned for 2008.
